Boat Tailed Grackel
I started this painting in 2010. Growing up in Seattle, WA, my childhood home featured old-fashioned bird prints. Among them were two sets of framed illustrations that belonged to my grandparents. The Grackel print was the one I ended up with, a vivid image forever etched in my mind since childhood. I created this painting in my studio in Darby, MT. Fast forward 20 years, and I moved to Arizona. There, I noticed a loud black bird, which turned out to be the Grackel. I hadn’t even known what a Grackel was before this encounter. I would call that a perfect manifestation.
